i was a houseplant
'nd you wr a light
(though i only watched th' lampshade)
i remember walking with you in the spring
'nd you wr enjoying the wind
there is something stuck to my mind
that i cannot place
(but it is connected to you)
it aches for approval that you gave freely
you tore th' paper mask from poetry
'nd sung about naked reality
naked politics
bleeding 'nd dancing
suffering 'nd celebrating
there are conversations that never began
in the fog of endless futures
they were dropped in th' distance
of time 'nd separation
you told how words are poems are music
are th' fabric of dreams that wake us in the night
with their terrible screams of night terror realization
with their tears of joy for unforgotten memories
what it was 'nd what it could be
i was a houseplant
'nd you wr a light
